Challenges

The portal changed its web technology stack. The previous setup performed normally in search, but the new implementation relied heavily on client-side rendering, which made it harder for search engines to consistently crawl and index important content.

As a result, organic traffic collapsed. Key pages that should drive discovery, such as residential and content pages, were no longer being surfaced reliably in search results.

Our Strategy

We ran a technical SEO audit to confirm the rendering and indexation constraints, then specified the move back to server-side rendering and the technical fixes around it. The client's developers implemented the changes to that specification.

Our work included:

Rendering audit to confirm that core page content depended on JavaScript execution, with key templates returning a minimal HTML shell before hydration
Indexation audit to identify patterns of URLs not being picked up or retained, including low-value duplicates and inconsistent canonical signals
Recommendation and implementation direction to move from CSR-heavy delivery back to SSR so search engines can crawl meaningful HTML consistently
Specifications for technical clean-up across templates to reduce crawl waste and improve indexation quality (internal linking consistency, sitemap hygiene, canonical consistency, and duplicate control)
Content support through articles written for search intent and for human readers
